The executive
© La Provence - Michel Vauzelle was elected President of the Region in 1998.

The executive is represented by the President of the regional Council. The President prepares and executes the deliberations of the regional assembly, manages patrimony, calls upon the regional economic and social Council, manages the regional administration. The executive also includes the bureau, composed of the President and of 15 Vice-presidents in charge of specific areas of competence.
Michel Vauzelle has been president (socialist party) of the Provence–Alpes–Côte d’Azur regional Council since 1998: he was re-elected for a term of six years in March 2004.

You elect the 126 members of the regional Council for the young.

This assembly is the seat of development for a democratic life. It puts forward proposals to improve young people’s lives. It develops exchange with public authorities; it helps to better understand the actions implemented by the regional authority. It has worked on issues such as health, the environment, euro-Mediterranean cooperation, road safety.

The elections for the 4th term of this assembly will be held in September 2005.

The permanent commission

To facilitate the examination of technical subjects, the regional Council has delegated attributions to its permanent commission. This is composed, by obligation, of the President, the Vice-presidents and the representatives of all political parties. The permanent commission has the competence to vote all decisions, except those concerning the budget and the approval of administrative accounts, within the framework of the delegation granted by the plenary assembly.

« The regional institution holds the competence to promote economic, social, health, cultural and scientific development throughout its territory and to ensure that its identity is preserved with due respect to the integrity, autonomy and allocations of Departments and Towns. »
